Stop Lemonade Stand Shutdowns!

I decided to try something a little different, thanks that I got photoshop now!

In different parts of the U.S., lemonade stands run by kids are shut down by police because they claim they are a health safety risk or that they need a permit to sell lemonade since it's a small business. Even though most of the lemonade seems to have been bought from the store and normally kids would not add anything harmful to the lemonade.

To me it's just higher ups being on power trips and wanting to stop kids from making just a little money for themselves or someone else. They want to ruin the kids fun over petty things such as a lemonade stand instead of focusing on real problems.

Here's videos that show lemonade stands being shut down.

Blindness

I haven't put up any artwork lately so I decided to put up another comic based on false preaching.

Blindness is my comic on sickness and how some pastors will try to make you feel guilty that you got it and it's your own fault or someone elses. That somehow it's your fault for getting sick, getting a disability or for not getting healed. Or that Satan is behind all diseases. Maybe some like what he gave to Job (God gave permission), but not to everyone, like Paul had when he had his thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:7) and said God gave that to him to keep him under control. Some sickness does come from sin (1 Corinthains 11:29-30) but not every single kind of sickness.

Some of these pastors even go as far as to say taking medicine shows you have a lack of faith in God's healing.

Basically, these kinds of pastors say the most insensitive things one can say about someone going through sicknesses and disabilities.

Fred Price: "What makes you think the Holy Spirit wants to live inside of a physical body where the limbs and organs and the cells do not funtion right?"

Well theres the famous Australian Christian Nick Vujiicic who's born without limbs and yet God is using him to travel around the world to inspire people that they can do anything.

Those pastors who believe all sicknesses are your fault are blind!

Pro$perty Go$pel

My mini-comic that kind of sums up my thoughts on the prosperty gospel.

To me it's unbiblical. The pastors use it to steal your money, by twisting scriptures, taking them out of context, making you feel guilty for being poor/in debt. They also claim you can get rich for "sewing seeds." Taking the parable of the sower completely out of context when Jesus describes it's meaning a few verses afterward.

And then they use people's money to live lavish lifestyles, such as buying expensive designer clothes, mansions, and luxury cars. Private jets even, though I am not completely sure if I disagree with private jets, since I see some advantages in using a private jet to get to crusades and remote areas faster. Why doesn't that money get put to better use? It's not wrong to be rich, but very very suspicious to be living the rich life from tithes and offerings meant to improve/maintence the church, help the poor, and keep the pastors surviving.

Theres many videos on Youtube exposing those famous pastors. And many articles online exposing the prosperty preachers. And for more detailed understanding of what they do and say, read "Christanity In Crisis: 21st Century" by Hank Hanegraaff.

I may do more artwork on that topic in the future, since it's a very serious issue to me.

Kill For God?

"Kill for God?" is my anti-war drawing, a message to my Christian brother's and sisters who feel that any war done in the name of God is just and is blessed by God. But I feel this is wrong since this is completely opposite of what Jesus would have done.

Other wars have been done in God's name such as what Constantine did and during the Crusades, where people were forced to become Christians or they die. It hurts our reputation and that we as Christians have to tell everyone these kinds of wars do not represent us.

To understand more of how I feel, read "The Myth Of A Christian Nation" by Gregory A. Boyd. You can buy it used off Amazon for a penny in hardcover.

If you disagree with me, I'll respect that, but please try to understand my point of view.

Read A Quran Today!

I wrote and drew this in the hopes to promote awareness of Islam to Christians, so they could have a better understanding of Islam/Muslims and their culture, instead of bashing it in ignorance like many have. Watching the news on tv doesn't give a true picture of all Muslims in the world.

Removing the Christian "fundies".

One of my goals as a Christian is to write and draw Modern Christians and hope it finds a huge enough audience that encourages the readers to think and act more like Christ and to think like Him. Though it annoys me when certain Christians who get a lot of attention and have a huge fanbase can support people who say some of the most distasteful and offensive things one can say and push potential Christians away such as what these two famous Christians do here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-CAcdta_8I

To me, any Christian who claims God today uses disasters, either man made or natural to punish hundreds of people appears to have a closed mind, especially to the possiblity that theres a good chance many Christians died in those disasters.

Though when Isreal is presured to give up land by the U.S. government, God gives warnings using natural disasters according to Jack Chick as this tract shows:

 http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1055/1055_01.asp

I am not sure if I should agree with him on that, it looks debatable and Jack Chick has been known to get his facts wrong on some things.

And not only that, but also that these types of Christians feel they need to force everyone around them to follow their way and pressure the government to listen to their way as if it's for the good of America. The claim that they gotta keep America as a "Christian Nation", which it never really was, nor was intended to be in my opinion. This too, hurts our reputation. I don't really feel it's the Christians job to try to change the laws of America or any country, since thats not what we are called to do.

I feel it's just our job as Christians to spread the good news and to set an example for other Christians to follow, instead of claiming God punishes hundreds of people without a warning and getting involved with worldly politics.

I want to use Modern Christians to help the "fundies" to stop acting like extremists that seem out of character of what Jesus would say and do.

YOU'RE GOING TO HELL!!!!

This is based on an experince the head pastor of my church went through.
Honestly, I feel that street preachers should stick to handing out free Bibles and tracts to explain the gospel rather than screaming to everyone, hurting Christanity's reputation.

Are detail "mistakes" real mistakes?

Many times as we reread comics, it's fun for me and others to look at details or things we might have missed reading through the comic the first time. Though when I see things that look like mistakes to me done by professional artists, I wonder how much of a big deal is it to get away with it and hope the reader or editors don't notice. Here's an example from the graphic novel Daytripper. (Which i recommend getting since it's a great story and has great art)

Look at the "Congrats! Jorge" on the birthday card in the first panel and notice that the letters in"Congrats!" is lined up differently with the "Jorge" letters in the 3rd panel. In the first panel the "J" in "Jorge" is right under the "n" and "g" in "Congrats!" In the 3rd panel, the "J" is under the "o" and "n"

Also notice the photograph the birthday card is covering in both panels. In the first panel, most of the upper right is covered up. In the 3rd panel, it's just the tip of the corner covered up.

Do these count as real mistakes to you? Or just let them go since details like this are not the main focus of the story and most readers may not notice? I noticed a similar mistake done in the graphic novel Watchmen, which is considered the best graphic novel ever and yet, it's still highly praised for what it accomplished.

I guess I feel like since these artists are "professionals" they shouldn't do things like this? Do you consider it acceptable to make a mistake when showing something the first time like a sign, signature or other little details and it doesn't show up exactly the same when shown again in another panel without explanation?

The Pool of Bethesda

The Pool of Bethesda

Hope this increases your faith in Jesus since the description of the pool in the gospel of John 5:2 matches whats been found by archelogical findings. And those ruins look like they would be fun to draw with all those bricks and rocks put together.

More artwork to show off.

Since I enjoy Craig Thompson's artstyle, I did this page last year which is from his graphic novel Blankets and showed it off everywhere else. A page that I copied as practice so I could try out his techniques and I did my own thing with it too. It's not a perfect replica I know, but it was intended as practice.

Hello, first blog post of mine. I want to show off some of my Modern Christians pictures.

The last pic was done in painting class when I was bored and had nothing to paint. More coming soon!
